AMAG –
AMAG Technology is one of the security
industry’s leading manufacturers of card and biometric access control
systems, with over 30 years experience in providing state-of-the-art
products worldwide. AMAG is part of Group 4 Technology, a wholly-owned
subsidiary of Group 4 Securicor, one of the world’s largest security
companies.
In 1970, Group 4 produced their first access
control system in Europe and since then has been at the leading edge of
technological advances in access control. They introduced their first
microprocessor system in 1983, which has proved so reliable that it is
still being supported today. Their first DOS-based PC system was
launched in 1987, and since then the multiMAX brand has been installed
in thousands of government and commercial installations throughout
Europe and the Middle East.
In 1990, Group 4 purchased
American Magnetics Corporation (AMC), based in Carson, California
(USA). AMC had pioneered magnetic-stripe card technology in 1971 and
developed their own AMAG™ brand access control systems in 1985. AMC
quickly became a leading manufacturer in the Americas, Far East and
Pacific Rim, supplying products to over 150 companies in the USA alone.
Group 4 recognized that AMC's expertise, reputation, and depth
outside of their own core markets of Europe and the Middle East
provided an ideal opportunity to expand their access control presence
worldwide. Combining a leading access control product with Group 4's
unique worldwide experience has resulted in a global network of
installers with the expertise and in-depth knowledge necessary to
comply with countries' varying requirements and regulations for access
control.
In 1997, American Magnetics' name was changed to
Group 4 Securitas Technology Corporation. A major milestone was reached
in 1999 when Group 4's AMAG brand Access Control System was selected
for installation in the Pentagon. Since then, AMAG has been involved in
some of the world's largest and most complex smart card and biometric
access control projects for both public and private entities.
In
February of 2003, the company's name was changed to AMAG Technology.
Also that year, AMAG reintroduced its product line, scaled to the needs
of small, remote facilities and multinational organizations alike. AMAG
products feature open-architecture standards and are compliant with
Windows 2000 and XP operating systems. AMAG, through technology
partnerships with best-of-breed security product developers, offers an
expanding range of modules to enhance the capabilities of its AMAG
access control systems. The modules include Digital Video Management,
Smart Card Encoding, Biometrics, Intrusion Alarms, Intercom Management,
etc. AMAG also offers one of the only access control products that
supports the federal government's SEIWG-012 physical access control
credential standard.
